A new standard-setting web service for the UK’s used car industry.
Glass’s Guide is used by thousands of car dealers up and down the country as the industry standard for used car valuations. It has the highest circulation in the UK market, with over 90% of car dealers subscribing. Although the market leader in its printed version it had never been able to make headway as an online guide.
Despite its reputation, Glass’s Guide was being bypassed online. A website had been developed but it was hard to use and so slow that dealers never took to it in the same way that they did with the printed guide. Glass’s competitors were threatening to take over the market through superior online offerings.
How could Glass’s position as the market leader of printed guides be translated to the online market? It was clear that Glass’s long-term survival depended on this. To ensure that it happened, and on the recommendation of previous clients, Glass’s asked livework to help them completely re-engineer and re-design the way they provided their data online.
As we undertook our research and development process it became obvious that there was an opportunity to provide much more than just an online valuation service. livework ended up building a completely new service – Glassnet, a ‘one stop shop’ web service for dealerships that not only gives instant valuations but also increases efficiency by providing a system for managing stock and the business.
By getting under the skin of the dealers’ world we were able to transform a service interaction that was previously complicated and difficult, to one that was easy, intuitive and which would become essential – the central focus of a dealer’s busy day.
At the same time as restructuring the process, we used the latest interaction design technology to create a much cleaner, and more attractive look and feel to the site that was both on-brand and easier to use.
Throughout the whole process we tested the new service with dealers and worked extremely closely with the client team through a very ambitious delivery schedule.
Glass-Net launched in early 2009 and has enabled EuroTaxGlass’s to take its reputation as the market leader for used car valuations, and provide a new standard-setting web service for the UK’s used car industry.
