In the 1920s a small group of people at the Bauhaus in Germany and in New York, put their aesthetic skill to use on industrial technology to make ordinary people’s lives better.
I believe we are in a similar historic place with service design. We need to put our skills to use on the digital technologies that define our lives and use them to create services that improve the lives of ordinary people.
Through our work with some of the largest organisations in the world, we are uncovering the innovative potential of design on a daily basis. Companies in the private sector are quickly discovering the value of this approach and in the years ahead I hope we can improve public services in the same way. Maybe one day we will be talking about public services that are so attractive and engaging we’d rather be defined by how we play a part in society than the type of car we drive…
